Wolgan Valley Railway Tour

On Saturday 14th July 2012, SETS visited the Wolgan Valley Railway and Glow Worm Tunnel near Lithgow. Access to the Glow Worm tunnel involved a 37 kilometre drive along fire trails which are also used for 4WD's and logging trucks.

Part of the roadway runs on the actual formation of the Wolgan Valley Railway and includes driving through one of two tunnels. This view shows the first and only tunnel that you drive through when accessing the Glow Worm Tunnel.
Our transport for the day was retired State Transit Mark 2 Mercedes Benz bus 2067 with a high speed differential fitted. The bus is seen here emerging from the first tunnel, on the rail alignment access road.
Our biggest hurdle was this large dip in the road that was caused by a wash away sometime ago but was overcome with ease by our cautious and professional team of bus drivers who travelled with us.
Looking from inside the Glow Worm tunnel towards Newnes.
A small group of us decided to walk the formation from the Glow Worm Tunnel right through to Newnes. This is some of the spectacutlar scenery that one can take in whilst walking the alignment
Remains of old four wheel wagons can be found along the old formation.
