The Sydney Electric Train Society, in conjunction with State Rail Heritage, is celebrating the significant milestone of 75 years of electric trains in Sydney, and we'd like you to join in the celebrations ! We will be commemorating the first electric train run from Oatley to Central on the 1st March 1926.
The Society will be assisting the operation of State Rail's heritage power door set, consisting of red single deck cars C3702 & C3708 and vintage red double-deck cars T4801 (Sydney's first double deck carriage, which entered service in January 1964) and T4814. For the first time in many years, you'll be able to travel around Sydney in an atmosphere that may be gone, but far from forgotten, in this return to the good old' days before Tangaras were even thought of !
Commencing at Central from Platform 2 at 9:07am, our four-car Celebration train will visit Oatley, Waterfall, thence Martin Place, East Hills, Airport Line, Regent's Park and Rosehill Racecourse before terminating at Lidcombe at 2:40pm. This will be the first time a red single deck suburban train will visit the new Airport Line, and this is definitely one highlight not to be missed !
As the charter cost for this train is being met by State Rail Heritage, the Society will not be charging fares. However travel to Oatley will be restricted to holders of the Special Commemorative tickets which will be issued for travel on this train from Central to Oatley. These tickets will now include free travel on the rest of the trip.
Special Commemorative tickets are limited and will only be available via media promotions on Radio 2UE and in the Daily Telegraph. For travel after the run to Oatley, normal CityRail tickets will be required if you do not hold a Special Commemorative ticket, and we highly recommend a CityRail DayTripper ($13) or Pensioner Excursion ticket. You can purchase these from any CityRail booking office. You must be in possession of a valid CityRail ticket to travel on this train.
