 "Steam Action III" DVD-Video

by Andrew Coble

This production from AC videos takes us through some very recent Australian steam preservation history.

Firstly we join 3265 fresh from its restoration and still in primer as she undergoes re-commissioning trials. We start with a trip to Springwood and later a spirited run to Gosford with 3265 lighting up the evening sky with flames from the fire box. A highlight is the turning of the locomotive on the turntable at Gosford.

Evergreen tour favourite 3801 is next but this this time in it's short lived "Grey Nurse" colours. We will see her head out to Orange and the footage includes some classic western scenery like Tarana station, the three arch bridge and a long shot of the climb up Tumulla Bank.

We next join 3642 on a run down to Kiama including a scenic shot from Stanwell Tops and an interesting surprise for a music festival by the seaside.

Lastly we see a spectacular tour to Zig Zag with 3801 double heading 3830. This includes now historic footage of the tour posing with Zig Zag railway rolling stock at bottom points station, some rare footage of the train being turned on Wallerawang Colliery branch and a shot of the locomotives being coaled at the Austin Butta siding.

It has been a while since we have seen both 38s running and the same goes for the Zig Zag railway. When will we see these wonderful sights again? At least in this production we can relive the magic of recent times passed.
