WE'RE CELEBRATING THE NEW LIGHT-RAIL EXTENSION TO LILYFIELD !
THE DETAILS:
To celebrate the extension of the Metro Light Rail system to Lilyfield and pay tribute to the trams of the past, we will ride the new tram service to Lilyfield, and join an ex-government bus for a journey into the past. We'll inspect the many abandoned tramway reservations of yesteryear, from Randwick to Balmoral and many in between. Revisit the spot where three corridor trams ran-away at Athol, and see what's become of some of the long-closed tram depots.
This tour is an excellent means of linking the future of trams in Sydney with past for tram and electric-train fans alike!. We'll meet at the Light Rail (or tram if you prefer!) stop at Sydney Terminal (the old tram colonnade) at 10:30am, where we will join a regular tram service to Lilyfield, where our bus will be waiting to take us over the harbour, where we'll gradually work our way southwards to the inner-eastern suburbs of Bronte, Watsons Bay and Randwick before returning to Sydney Terminal at approximately 5:30pm. Lunch will be at leafy Balmoral, although cold drinks will be available on the bus. A set of notes will be handed out which will show some of the sights covered on this tour in the tramway days
