THE DETAILS:
Just for something different, this tour will take on a contemporary aviation theme, with a close-up inspection behind the scenes of Kingsford-Smith Airport, with a look at railway activity on the Botany Goods Lines afterwards.
Our chartered bus will head for Kingsford-Smith Airport where Airside Tarmac Tours will take us on a guided tour of the many & varied facilities around the airport that are not normally accessible to the general public.
We will be given the opportunity to watch jet-aircraft takeoff and land from a vantage point within the airport; listen to pilots communicate with the air-traffic control tower; inspect the massive jet hangars and get a close-up view of various aircraft from all over the world. We will also be taken alongside the runways where they jut out onto Botany Bay, accompanied by expert commentary. We will also seek out the site of the original third runway that dates back to the early days of Mascot Airport. For all members with an interest in aviation (and we know there are many out there!), this is a unique opportunity to do this in an organised group and inspect features of Kingsford-Smith Airport that you wouldnt otherwise see.
After a lunch break at Westfield Eastgardens, we will spend the afternoon observing construction works for the East Hills track amplification project.
