Our next tour will give everyone the rare opportunity to see the operations of the SRAs Mortdale Maintenance Centre close-up. Our visit will involve a guided tour of the facility. This will provide an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and will cover many of the operational aspects of maintaining current suburban electric trains. This will also be the Society's first visit to Mortdale MC since 1992.
After our inspection of Mortdale, we will then travel to Kogarah to firstly enjoy a 40 minute lunch break. Following this we will then use our bus to retrace the route of the original Kogarah Station to Sans Souci steam tramway which opened in September 1887.
Next, after returning to Kogarah, we will similarly retrace the route of the later electric trolley bus system which replaced it in July 1937 (which was in turn replaced by diesel buses in 1959).
Our tour will depart from Sydney Central Railway Station outside platform 1 at 10:00am. We expect to return to Central around 4:30pm.
THE FARES ARE: Adults $30, Concessions $25 and Children (5-18 years) $15. Family fare $45.
The fares include all travel by vintage ex-government bus. Numbers on the maintenance centre inspection part of the trip are strictly limited to 30 persons. Interested members are thus advised to book early to avoid any disappointment. Confirmation of receipt of your booking will be made by phone.
Please note that it will be necessary to wear appropriate clothing (long trousers) and fully enclosed leather footwear for the visit to the Maintenance Centre.
A Booking Form is available to print out and mail with your payment.
