Our next tour will give you the opportunity to see one of the best model
live steam facilities in Sydney and provides a rare opportunity to
inspect some former Melbourne and Sydney electric cars in new roles in
new locations.
Galston Valley Railway is the home of the Hornsby Model Engineers
Cooperative. Here they have a 5 inch track circuit which runs through
very scenic surroundings. Their members operate a variety of steam and
electric locomotive models which draw trains you can ride on. We will
visit their site for about two hours with the opportunity for train
rides on their loop.
After our visit to Galston, we will then travel to Cranebrook, enjoying
a lunch break en-route. There we will stop to inspect former Melbourne
Hitachi Motor Car 115M (including interior). The Hitachi cars date from
the early 1970s and are currently being withdrawn from service to be
replaced by new stock. The surplus cars are presently being sold off for
reuse or scrap.
Following this we will then proceed to Bilpin for a close up inspection
of former Uset motor car CF 5020 (including interior). This car was sold
by State Rail in 1998 and has since been completely rebuilt to a high
standard for guest accommodation. It has appeared in UTW on several
occasions.
Our tour will depart from Sydney Central Railway Station outside
platform 1 at 8:30am. We expect to return to Central around 5:30pm. As
time permits our trip may also allow inspections of suburban cars C
3717, C 3183 and C 3251 on-route.
THE FARES ARE: Adults $40, Concessions $35 and Children (5-18 years)
$20. Family fare $55. The fares include all travel by vintage
ex-government bus, all entry fees and three train rides at Galston.
Confirmation of receipt of your booking will be made by phone.
Please note that it will be necessary to wear fully enclosed leather
footwear to ride the trains at Galston.
