Come and join us for a fun day out, on a tour that
steps back to the time when double headed electric
locomotive hauled passenger trains were a
common occurrence.
Our tour will feature two 86 class locos, including
our own 8606. Our day long trip will
take us to the South and Central coasts. Additional
highlights of the trip are expected to include the
inner harbour balloon loop (coal loader),
as well as the City Undergound and the
Harbour Bridge.
This rare opportunity to travel behind two electric
locomotives is a must - the last time a double
headed electric passenger service was operated
was with 8501 and 8510 on the Indian Pacific in
January 1996.
Our tour will commence with an early 7:14 am
departure from Central proceeding via the
Illawarra Line and the inner harbour loop to Kiama, with
quick pick-ups stops at Hurstville (7:36 am)
and Sutherland (7:49 am).
We will have a 35 minute break at Kiama while
the locos change ends. We then proceed back to
Wollongong where we will have a one hour
lunch break.
We then return to the city to proceed via the City
Underground (Shore) and Harbour Bridge, up
the North Shore line to Hornsby and then on to the
short North to Gosford.
We have a 25 minute break at Gosford while the
locos again change ends, before our return to the
City via the North Shore line.
Set downs commence at Hornsby and the trip is
scheduled to conclude at Redfern at 18:42.
Numerous photo stops have also been allowed
along the route.
